Psi Upsilon Omega Chapter Spotlight on Dr. Zephanye L Sistrunk, Pharm. D. , Pharmacist

Las Vegas

Dr. Zephanye L. Sistrunk is a current member of Psi Upsilon Omega Chapter in Henderson, NV. Her commitment to Alpha Kappa Alpha began when she was initiated into the Gamma Kappa chapter in the spring of 2000 on the campus of Tuskegee University, an HBCU in Tuskegee, AL. After graduation, she remained a general member until she moved to the Las Vegas area and joined a group of local Alpha Kappa Alpha women who eventually became an interest group known as the Pearls of Henderson. She ultimately went on to be one of 29 chartering members of Psi Upsilon Omega, only the 2nd chapter to be chartered in the state of Nevada in nearly 50 years.

 

Professionally, Dr. Sistrunk is a highly respected clinical pharmacist. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Florida A&M University, an HBCU that leads the nation in the production of African American pharmacists. She currently serves as the Clinical Manager of the Department of Pharmacy at Centennial Hills Hospital Medical Center where she manages a team of 10 pharmacists and 16 pharmacy technicians. She is also an Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience Preceptor at Roseman University of Health Sciences, University of Arizona and Creighton University providing clinical expertise in Adult Acute Critical Care and mentorship to doctoral students in their final year of pharmacy school. She also serves as a mentor to college students in the Sewanee Multicultural Health Society (Premed and Prehealth undergraduates at the University of the South, Sewanee, TN).

As a member of Psi Upsilon Omega chapter, Dr. Sistrunk is currently serving her second term as Recording Secretary and Chairman of the Target II Heath Promotion Committee, as well as the newly appointed Chairman of the Connection Committee. She is honored to also be serving in her first Regional appointment by Regional Director Carol R. Dixon as the Intermountain Cluster Coordinator. The Intermountain Cluster is comprised of 5 graduate and 3 undergraduate chapters in the states of Nevada, Arizona and Utah.

 

Outside of sorority activities, Dr. Sistrunk is an active charter member of the Las Vegas Chapter of the Florida A&M University National Alumni Association where she serves as the Recording Secretary. She will lead the efforts to charter a Las Vegas Alumni chapter for Tuskegee University as well. She is also an active participant with the Frias Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization and volunteers as needed for Mrs. Vanyo Ho’s 3rd grade class at Mabel Hoggard Elementary Math and Science Magnet School.

 

Dr. Sistrunk is married to HoneyDo Samuel Sistrunk, Regional Supervisor at Security Finance Corporation. They are the proud parents of four children: Quinton (17), Jasmine (16), Zerryn (8) and Mychael (7). In her spare time, Dr. Sistrunk enjoys arts and crafts and event planning. Her motto in life is “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about.”
